Failed to upload video

What this means

The video could not be processed or uploaded to TikTok. This is usually a technical issue with the file format, size, or network connection rather than a content policy issue. It does not affect account health.

Common causes

  • Video file exceeds TikTok's size limit (287.6 MB for mobile uploads)
  • Video format is not supported (TikTok supports MP4 and MOV — other formats may fail)
  • Slow or unstable internet connection interrupted the upload
  • Video resolution is below TikTok's minimum (540x960 recommended, 720p preferred)
  • The TikTok app or browser is outdated

How to fix it

1

Check file size and compress if needed

Compress the video to under 250 MB using a free tool like Handbrake (desktop) or Clideo (browser-based). Reducing bitrate is usually enough without visible quality loss at TikTok's display resolution.

2

Convert to MP4 format

If you are using a non-standard format (AVI, WMV, MKV, HEVC), convert to MP4 first. TikTok officially supports MP4 and MOV — other formats may fail silently.

3

Try on a stable WiFi connection

Upload failures on mobile data are often connection-related. Switch to WiFi before retrying, especially for files over 100 MB.

4

Update the TikTok app

Go to your app store and confirm you are running the latest version. Outdated versions sometimes fail on uploads due to API changes.

5

Try uploading via TikTok's desktop web interface

Visit tiktok.com on a desktop browser and upload from there. The desktop uploader has a higher size limit (500 MB) and is often more reliable for larger files.

Account health impact

Upload failures are purely technical and have no effect on your account health, AHR score, or posting privileges.
